You know, even when I zoom in, I can't tell what the silly state seal is all about. Double penalty for "state seal violation" and "illegibility violation." Ditch that, keep the bison silouhette, and you've got a great flag. Bonus points for wildlife. They get a point for not using Latin on the seal. Gives them overall, oh, let's say a 4/10
Yeah. I agree. The seal sucks. There's no need for it, seals are pretentious for a state that's barely 130 years old, and it isn't visually appealing. Wyoming ought not try to misrepresent the fact that they allowed women's suffrage first - their motives were dubious, at best. And let us not forget that, all cliches aside, the majority of Wyomingites are prejudiced or worse.
On the other hand, Wyoming has chosen a nice complement of color, rather than selecting the standard blue/gold or blue/yellow theme so many of it's fellow sisters have. Definite points for the bigass bison - if only they had stuck with the bison on the red, white, and blue background, I would score this far higher.
As it is, it's fairly immediately recognizable at a distance by way of an appropriate symbol (how many other states feature a bigass bison?!), and generally speaking, it's a nice flag.
A few points off, though, since the bison is not anatomically correct. You would totally be able to see the nutsatchell hanging down on a real bison, even at the side profile like it is. Then again, since it IS the equality state, I suppose it MIGHT be a female bison.
To me, this is a totally middle-of-the-road flag. Lots of room for improvement, but it doesn't sink to the depths of most other middlish U.S. state's flags.
Remove the seal and simplify the animal sillouette -- that would give this a 9.5 for me!
However, with the seal there I have to remove 2 points! I think a female bison would be more approprate as well.
M, thanks for pointing out the suffrage issue -- the state is not notorious for being open-minded. Did you know that one of Oregon's official nick names is "The Hard-case state"? (And I think that state has a more open-minded rep...)

I give it a 5.0 out of 10.
